The Re-engage impact team works with colleagues across the organisation to evaluate the success of our services and understand how we’re making a difference.  We spoke to Jennifer, one of our first impact volunteers, about why she decided to volunteer and what she's most looking forward to.

Why did you decide to become an impact volunteer?

To be involved in measuring the impact that Re-engage has on people’s lives felt like an opportunity I couldn't pass up. I was excited to apply and hope I can make a difference in my own small way.

What qualities do you think you need to be a good impact volunteer?

I think you need a calm approach and an ability to put the people you speak to at ease.  You'll need to be a good multi-tasker, as you'll be listening intently whilst actively noting down information.  And you'll need to be organised and self-motivated whilst also happy to work well as part of a small, dedicated team. If you're keen to make a difference to the lives of others, volunteering within the impact team will be a hugely rewarding experience.

What are you most looking forward to?

I'm looking forward to interacting with older people and hearing about how the work of Re-engage volunteers and employees impacts their lives.  Re-engage does such valuable work, and I'm grateful for the chance to play my part in an organisation that benefits and brightens the lives of so many.

What would you say to anyone also thinking of becoming an impact volunteer?

Go for it! While there will always be an essential framework to follow, each new person will bring their individual perspective, attributes and life experience to the table. To me, this is a vital part of ensuring a team has impact. Even if this is the first time you've volunteered, if you've read this far you've already showed that you're someone who possesses much of what will be required: you’re willing to help others and are looking for an interesting way to do that!

"I know volunteering with the impact team will be such a rewarding role and I feel excited to make a difference! It will be a privilege to speak to older people and learn from their insight and feedback about how Re-engage helps to relieve loneliness and isolation."   Jennifer, Re-engage impact volunteer
