Discover how a relocation led Kerrie to launch a tea party group that's created new connections and experiences.

When Kerrie moved from south east London to Kirkcaldy in Scotland a few years ago she was looking to increase her social circle - and she has succeeded in doing just that by coordinating Re-engage tea parties in Fife town.

Kerrie explained: “I absolutely love organising and hosting, so I’ve definitely got to know a lot of people since I started volunteering. When I took over the group there were just three or four guests. Now I have enough for two groups and 17 volunteers.”

Kerrie, who has five daughters and works in business development management, moved to Kirkcaldy – where her husband James comes from - six years ago. Joining Re-engage was her first experience of volunteering.

She said: “I’m trying to introduce new things for the group, like going to the theatre or arranging tri-shaw rides, things that will make it a little bit more interesting. In March we met at a YMCA building for a get-together.”

“But we will keep going to volunteer hosts’ homes because the older people love going to someone’s house. It feels more intimate, and I think there should be a personal touch.

“Some of the older people lack company, they just don’t have a large social circle to do things with or they find it tricky to get out and about. That’s why the tea parties are so important.”
