About Re-engage

Re-engage is a charity that is positive about older age and committed to fighting loneliness so that people can have social lives and friendship groups however old they are. We inspire and enable meaningful connections and shared experiences within communities across the UK for people over 75 facing loneliness and social isolation.

Our volunteers work together to create better communities and help to enrich the lives of our members by giving them something to look forward to.  Older people who may have felt very alone now feel valued as individuals, continue to form friendships, and have groups that give support. We make sure that people know they are important well into their old age.

Respectful, determined, warm, pioneering, and local: we are Re-engage and we are bringing generations together.

Our vision is a world where no one is ever too old to make friends and enjoy social interaction.

Our mission is to work within communities to end social isolation and loneliness in older people.

Role purpose

Re-engage volunteer-led tea parties provide a lifeline for lonely and isolated older people across the UK. During the pandemic these monthly social gatherings had to be suspended and they are now re-starting as life returns to normality.  Many of our tea party groups lost both volunteers and older people during the pandemic.  As the charity’s PR and digital communications officer, you will be responsible for recruiting older people and volunteers to our services across the UK through our digital platforms, local media, volunteer jobs boards and any other relevant platforms.

This crucial role is key to building our reputation as one of the UK’s leading voices on older people. Reporting to the communications manager, and working closely with other members of the communications team, you will be responsible for using social media and google advertising to recruit guests and volunteers and for securing coverage of our work in local press. You will also have a remit to help gather case studies for use on our website and regular e-newsletters.

You’ll drive up the quality of our written content and media reach through continuous test, review and optimisation.

Our communications team is made up of the communications manager, communications officer, media and PR officer and social media officer. The function reports into the director of fundraising and communications.
