Re-engage is a charity that is positive about older age and committed to fighting loneliness so that people can have social lives and friendship groups however old they are. We inspire and enable meaningful connections and shared experiences within communities across the UK for people over 75 facing loneliness and social isolation.
Our volunteers work together to create better communities and help to enrich the lives of our members by giving them something to look forward to. Older people who may have felt very alone now feel valued as individuals, continue to form friendships, and have groups that give support. We make sure that people know they are important well into their old age.

We are pleased to announce that we’re recruiting a new member of our partnerships and engagement team to drive forward our work in South London. This role is at the heart of ensuring Re-engage’s lasting impact.
If you’re the right person for us then you’ll work alongside older people across all communities in the South of London, with a focus on working with people from an ethnic minority group or background. We particularly welcome applications from candidates from an ethnic minority group or background, but regardless, you’ll be part of strengthening and diversifying participation in our decision-making processes, particularly amplifying the voice of older people from ethnic minorities, and embedding joint working between current and new partners.
The partnerships and engagement team has two core tasks:
- Engagement work promoting our services to referrers and recruiting older people and volunteers via partners and in collaboration with the wider Re-engage team.
- Project delivery work ensuring that we deliver grant funded projects in accordance with funder expectations, again working closely with the wider Re-engage team.
As an engagement officer (ethnic minorities), you’ll:
- Contribute to the delivery of Re-engage’s objectives by working with referral partners to ensure that older people across the South of London have access to our services, with a specific focus on people from an ethnic minority group or background. communities.
- Promote our services to other partners and agencies that will help to inform older people about our services.
- Look for new opportunities to grow our services across South London.
- Work closely with our communications team to generate local PR and social media to drive work in specific locations across the South of London.
Main tasks and responsibilities
- Grow and develop our network of referral partners across South London to ensure that the work of Re-engage is promoted and offered to people over 75 who experience loneliness.
- Liaise closely with the fundraising team to deliver against recruitment targets linked to grants, and to also support the preparation of fundraising proposals and applications.
- Manage the Community Christmas directory by working with event host organisations to develop a national database of Christmas partners.
- Use the database of Christmas partners for year-round engagement.
- Identify speaking and presenting opportunities to ensure that the work of Re-engage is widely known and understood by referrers.
- Recruit older people and volunteers as required to create, sustain and grow our services across the South London.
- Work closely with the service delivery team.
- Collaborate with the communications team to ensure the widest possible publicity for your work through media and social media opportunities, local press, radio, TV, and online forums.
- Support the wider team, especially the impact team and the communications team, by collating case studies.
- Inform fundraising team of any opportunities – such as local authority grants, companies, trusts, or individuals.
- Attend virtual and face-to-face staff meetings and training courses as required.
- Share ‘good practice’ in working with referrers and older people.
- Carry out any other reasonable tasks assigned to you by your line manager.

You’ll be given the tools that you need and then will be tasked with growing and developing your network of referrers, partners, and others who will help you reach what can be a hard-to-reach group of people.

Knowledge, skills and attributes
- Excellent people skills with a proven ability to collaborate with professionals, partners, older people, volunteers and colleagues.
- Experience of working across different sectors and developing links with other organisations.
- Organised and methodical approach to work with strong administrative and IT skills.
- Self-motivated, able to work remotely with minimal supervision.
- Experience of working to deadlines and meeting KPIs.
- Able to engage with older people and attend groups (where needed) across South London, when required.
- Commitment to an organisation that challenges ageism and empowers volunteers.
- Able to work your own initiative as well as part of a team.
- Understanding of, and empathy with, the issues affecting older people who are isolated, and lonely.
- Knowledge of the local charity sector.
- Experience of delivering and implementing community projects.
- Experience of engaging with people from an ethnic minority group or background.
This role also requires:
- A dedicated place to work in your home.
- Sufficient broadband for permanent Wi-Fi access to multiple cloud-based systems.
- An enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service/Protecting Vulnerable Groups check.
- Strong computer literacy with sound knowledge of key programmes including but not limited to Microsoft Excel, Word, Teams and Outlook.
